Motown The Musical
Boston Opera HouseJanuary 28, 2015 7:00 PM
539 Washington Street
Boston, MA 02124
It began as one man's story -- then it became everyone's music -- and now it's Broadway's musical. "Motown the Musical" tells the true American dream story of Motown founder Berry Gordy's journey from featherweight boxer to the heavyweight music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson and many more. Motown shattered barriers, shaped lives and made the world move to the same beat. Now you can experience it live in this record-breaking smash hit that features songs like "My Girl," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Stop! In the Name of Love" and more.

Captain Boycott
CycloramaJanuary 28, 2015 7:00 PM
539 Tremont Street
Boston, MA 02116
With striking imagery, masks and giant papier-mâché puppets, the renowned Bread and Puppet Theater tells a powerful tale about the fight against oppression in three chapters. Chapters one and two set the story with a modern retelling of "Antigone" and a history of the horizontalists' economic philosophy. The third chapter deals with occurrences of military and economic oppression. "Captain Boycott" is presented as part of Bread and Puppet's nine-day residency in the spectacular Cyclorama. Sourdough rye will be served and cheap art will be available for purchase after the show. Led by artist Peter Schumann, Bread and Puppet first made its mark in the experimental theater movement of the '60s and '70s in New York, and now makes its way to the stage of the Boston Center for the Arts.

Shear Madness
Charles PlayhouseJanuary 28, 2015 8:00 PM
74 Warrenton Street
Boston, MA 02116
Set in a local hair salon and with lines as up-to-date as the morning's news, "Shear Madness" is a hilarious whodunit with you, the audience, as a central character. When the salon's landlady is murdered at the outset, a laugh-a-minute blend of mystery and improvisational theater ensues, with audience members called upon to make sense of the clues, question the actors and ultimately, solve the crime. This Boston institution, ongoing at the Charles Playhouse since 1980, boasts new clues and up-to-the-minute humor every night, resulting in rollicking repeat visits.
