In 1974, a little country grocery store was the site of a weekly jam session. Musicians would come from miles around to "pick a little" on the guitar and sing favorite tunes. The Jam Session evolved into what is now a favorite family-style restaurant. Tresa Street and her band performs on Friday nights and Bob Payne and his band perform on Saturday nights. You can be the first to listen to upcoming new talent on Tuesday nights since the microphone is open to amateurs. No alcohol served and smoking is prohibited, but bring your appetite. The pork barbecue and chicken are some of the best around. Long Hollow Jamboree & Restaurant is only 11 miles north of Nashville.

Plaza Bar & Grill is not your typical Mexican restaurant in Middle Tennessee. The menu does not include a variety of combination plates available by number and the Speedy Gonzales lunch special is nowhere to be found. Plaza is not your run of the mill Mexican joint, it is a step up. At Plaza, both the meals and the atmosphere are authentic, while the prices are reasonable, and the selection is more exclusive. Daily specials dictate the majority of the menu and include such options as Arroz con pollo (rice with chicken) and Tostada de Ceviche (seafood open tacos). Plaza offers guests a delightful combination of Mexican flavors with an upscale flare. -Lynn-nore Chittom
Yokohama Japanese Grill offers guests delicious Japanese food at an affordable price in a casual and comfortable environment with excellent service. Although the location and exterior are rather unassuming, this is definitely a hidden gem in the greater Nashville area. Extremely popular with locals, this establishment has been in business for many years in the same location with a loyal following of regulars. Outstanding service, flavorful, authentic Japanese cuisine, terrific prices and plentiful portions make Yokohama a favorite spot for Japanese dining. Meals are prepared on a hibachi grill, but not table-side, as in some Japanese steakhouses. -Lynn-nore Chittom
Sam's All American Sports Bar has been voted "Best Sports Bar" in Nashville seven times by the Nashville Scene Magazine, and they know what they're talking about. With two locations, one in Hillsboro Village and one in Hendersonville, all of Nashville has an opportunity to enjoy a game at Sam's. Unlike many chain restaurants and bars, Sam's puts just as much emphasis on their food as they do on the big game. The pizzas are handcrafted and creative and the burgers are juicy and delicious, but nobody really goes to Sam's just for the food, as there are plenty of other options in the area. Check out their website for Happy Hour specials and events. You'll be sure to have a great time at Sam's. -Lynn-nore Chittom
This restaurant provides the Music City area with some of the best barbecue pork and chicken around. The kitchen makes sandwiches, platters and ribs, and that's all, except for an occasional pie for dessert. The enormous sandwiches come piled high with chopped pork or chicken, and dinner platters come with your choice of side orders. The white beans are a popular choice. If you're planning a party or picnic, call ahead and pick up a slab or two of ribs, smothered in spices and served with a quart of rich, tangy sauce.
Dos Margaritas offers guests traditional Mexican fare with excellent prices and fabulous service. The atmosphere is fun and festive with excellent and friendly service. During the warmer months, Dos Margaritas opens up a patio garden area where dinner is served and smoking is permitted. One of three locations in the greater Nashville area, Dos Margaritas in Hendersonville has sister spots in Gallatin and Clarksville. All of these locations are favored by locals. The chimichanga and chile relleno are particularly good and very reasonably priced. - Lynn-nore Chittom

Ruby's Kitchen offers guests in Hendersonville a great selection of fabulous, home-cooked comfort food. This tasty meat-n-three has real Southern cooking at its best. The history of Ruby's Kitchen is as rich as the flavors. Ruby and Norris Davidson spent many years serving up delicious Southern comfort meals at their first restaurant, The Mason Jar. Then Ruby opened up a breakfast and lunch spot of her own called Ruby's. While Ruby has retired and passed her recipes and the use of her name on to the new owners, she still frequents the restaurant and is often seen enjoying lunch at her favorite table. Despite the change in ownership, the food is every bit as good as ever and well worth trying.-Lynn-nore Chittom
Café Rakka is one of the best kept secrets in or around Nashville! The food is delicious, plentiful, and beautifully plated. The décor inside the café and in the small, outdoor eating area is so well-done it instantly moves a diner from the bustle of suburban Nashville to the beauty of the Mediterranean. Café Rakka is family-owned and operated and everyone there is friendly and helpful. The meat dishes are distinctly flavorful. Although not listed, it is possible to order a sample of each of the meat dishes for a comparable dinner price. In keeping with the religious traditions of the owner, alcohol is not served.
