Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1997. It is located in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana and covers an area of nearly 4200 acres (1699 hectares). The refuge is rich in flora and fauna and is dotted with cypress, Cherrybark oak, cedar elm, ash, hickories, and tupelo trees. The refuge is home to an excellent variety of birds and marine life. The refuge also is equipped with an interactive visitors center, nature trails, observation decks, an amphitheater, and information kiosks.
