Designed by Joseph W. Barnwell of Charleston, it was built across the Congaree River. Apart from transportation, it was popular owing to its decorative design that included lamp posts, vine pattern and a acanthus leaf design. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the bridge transforms in to a beautiful sight in the evening, owing to the river back drop against sunset.
