The Church of the Gesu is a Catholic Jesuit church located on the campus of Marquette University
. This astonishing church is actually over a century old--it was built back in the 1890s. Gesu is the Italian name for Jesus. This name was chosen to honor the Church of Gesu in Rome, the burial place of St. Ignatius Loyal, the founder of the Jesuit Society. This church, like many in Milwaukee, earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places, and in 1975 is was designated a Milwaukee landmark.
