All ancient roads may have led to Rome, but the majority of them passed through the delightful town of Chambéry. Bordered by the Bourget Lake and the Chartreuse Mountains, natural beauty surrounds the capital of the Savoie department. There are many sites to see, such as the Château de Chambéry (Chambéry Château) which was built up by different rulers throughout time, including Napoléon Bonaparte, and the Fontaine des Éléphants (the Elephant Fountain) which pays homage to the military adventures of Benoît de Boigne in India.
Les Charmettes is a quiet hamlet situated near the town of Chambéry in France. The site is frequently associated with Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the well-known philosopher and writer. The estate of the philosopher is now a major tourist attraction, and is deemed as a historic monument by the government of France.

The pass connects the commune of Saint-Geoire-en-Valdaine and Miribel-les-Échelles through the Route D28 which is marked by 2.6 hectares of exotic flora and fauna on the alkaline bog sedge on either side. A perfect avenue for hiking and nature trails, the clear ground at the foot of the pass has been used as a venue for the Festival Col des 1000, since the year 1997.
