Officially the world's largest corn maze, Dixon's Corn Maze covers more than 40 acres (16 hectares) of land. The maze is also known for its penchant for getting its visitors to lose their way, within minutes of entering it. The intricate passage-ways are an exciting feature of this maze, and finding one's way through them is quite a challenging yet fun-filled activity. Corn Maze is a part of Cool Patch Pumpkins, a recreational destination that also features a scarecrow exhibit as well as several varieties of pumpkins on display. Vultures, screech owls and bald eagles are among the birds displayed in living-room-sized cages along tree-shaded pathways. The volunteers and professional veterinarians affiliated with California Raptor Center release about 65 percent of their patients after successful treatments ranging from surgery to physical therapy. The staff leads Hawk Walks to view recently released birds in the surrounding habitat. Visitors can view demonstrations of techniques such as "on the fist." During monthly events, staff lectures and presentations focus on the fascinating features of raptor biology and ecology. Admission is free.
Thousands of school children come here to learn about the native plants on this unique 80-acre preserve. During day camps in July and August, children get an up-close-and-personal look at nature. Other year-round activities for children include guided tours through the redwoods and occasionally the staff offers stargazing sessions. The Arboretum is not just for children. Jarvis Winery is an underground winery wherein the whole process of wine making is in a deep cave. The cave is parabolic and circular which enables easy movement and accessibility. The stream and waterfall running through the center of the winery helps in maintaining the humidity of the caves while adding to the beauty of the winery. Unique tastings and tours of the cave winery are scheduled every day. It is better to plan ahead, especially during the season weekends. You get to taste six of the best Jarvis wines and you can buy bottles or cases of the wines that you like at the winery itself. Situated between F Street and Oak Avenue, the Community Park sits pretty. It has a community pool, a tennis court, two play areas, a public skate park and a dog park. The 28 acres of lush greenery and fun is open during the day. The skating park, which has a concrete ramp, is open for skateboarding. It also features many soccer fields and softball backstops.
