This cross country resort is just a hop, ski and a jump away, offering the closest consistent snowfall to Melbourne. It is also one of the three busiest cross-country resorts in the world, a proud boast indeed. As a day visitor destination, Lake Mountain Ski Resort does not provide any on-mountain accommodation. Most visitors will choose to stay in beautiful Marysville, a township situated 20 kilometers away from the mountain. A kiosk, ski and toboggan equipment hire shop and ski school cater for day visitors. Summit is 1,520 meters, skiable terrain is 2,400 hectares and Toboggan slopes, 73.7 kilometers of well marked trails.

A popular stop on the Puffing Billy Railway line or a destination in itself, Emerald Lake Park is a very pleasant day trip from Melbourne. There is plenty for children to do to burn off energy after the drive or train trip. Water activities include paddleboat rides, swimming in the children's pool (gated for safety) and a water slide in the warmer months.
