»Moon Duo

March 05, 2015 9:00 PM

The San Francisco-based project Moon Duo is a psychedelic rock duo featuring guitarist Ripley Johnson of the Wooden Shjips and keyboardist Sanae Yamada. The group is inspired in large part by krautrock bands, as well as the lo-fi garage aesthetic of many other San Francisco-based bands. Although the group's 2011 debut album Mazes, offers a dreamy, expansive sound it took on darker tones the following year with the Horror Tour EP. Weighed down by a fair amount of fuzz and processed guitar, the band's subsequent 2012 album Circles, is the product of the time Moon Duo spent an entire winter isolated in the Rocky Mountains.
