Carbethon is an ancient house brimming with historical pieces gathered from the district or donated by townspeople. See examples of early china, furniture, linen, fashion and cooking equipment. Gasp at the ancient dentistry equipment in the surgery and marvel at the well-restored radios in the Wireless Shop. The workmanship and tools in the early slab hut and blacksmith's shop are fascinating. While not open every day, the volunteers who run the site are happy to open on request.
Lake Wivenhoe is in the picturesque Esk Shire, known as "Valley of the Lakes", is an hour from the northwest of Brisbane. Along with Lake Sommerset, it is the source of the Brisbane River, and affords great opportunities for camping, sailing, fishing, swimming, picnicking and bush walking. Activities in the area are not limited to the lakes either, sky-diving, hang-gliding and horse riding are available too, and a few places offer farm stays for weekends. There is accommodation nearby, and pubs, restaurants and bakeries to satisfy hungry stomachs.
Morgan Park is the equestrian center of the state. The activities at the park include polocrosse, carriage driving, horse trails and motor racing; there are many clubs dedicated to these activities. The venue also plays host to a number of equestrian and motor racing competitions. Get in touch with the local city council for more details.
