Bakkenteigen Kulturhus is truly a house of culture, what with the vast assortment of cultural activities it plays host to. Associated with Vestfold University College, it is a venue where you will always find something interesting going on, be it a play, concert or musical. The center can accommodate about 450 people, and is even used as the site for meetings and seminars.
This place is always buzzing with concerts, musicals, theater and other cultural events. City Scene is a great place to unwind if you are into arts and culture. They also have restaurants that serve good food, giving you an opportunity to dine and wine at any of the two after a show.
Glemmen Kirke is one of the oldest standing structures in Fredrikstad since its construction in the year 1100. Romanesque architecture, created only out of rubble has withstood the test of time. Various family centered events and programs are held regularly here, to instill and encourage the growth of christian values in children and adults alike. Apart from being a tourist attraction, Glemmen Kirke is a community center for the local population of Fredrikstad which caters to the regional christian population.
Kongstenhallen is a multipurpose sports hall which is a sports center, fitness center and a swimming pool all rolled into one. This is Fredrikstad Municipality's sports hall and is home to the Fredrikstad Football Club (FBK). Guests can avail facilities like sauna, bath and more in this center. It is also used for exhibitions and other major local events.
The open air ground, nestled amidst the dense forest and close to the shore in the south of Stavern, has been a venue for the Stavernfestivalen ever since it was first held in 2001. The ground is large enough to provide camping, food, sanitation and other basic facilities for the huge crowd that converge during the multiple days fest. In 2012, close to 30,000 music lovers attended the annual rock and pop music festival that invites various national and international artists/ bands. The Minnehallen (Hall of Remembrance) is located close to the venue, and partially also serves as the backdrop for concerts.
Hvalerhallen is located in the premises of Hvaler Ungdomsskole and is a municipal sports club for the community. Sports such as handball, archery, football, tennis, climbing, badminton and shooting are encouraged here. The venue also has a cafe, a huge dance floor and is given out on rent for cultural events.
Svelvik Kommunale Kino is a small municipal theater that mostly shows movies for schools and has other cultural activities. The theater is not a fancy one and most of the movies showed here are archived. It is just a simple place where the community's movie palate is some what satiated.
