Designed by Christian Hernik Grosch in 1856, the Horten Church is essentially a local community church. Many artifacts including the stained glass work by Veslemoy Nystedt Stoltenberg, were destroyed in a bomb attack of 1920; but despite the turbulence the church has stood strong as a safe haven of faith. Today the church offers several community services like activities for new parents, day care, summer and hobby camps for children and much more.

Basically a marine national park, Ytre Hvaler National Park boasts one of the largest coral reefs of Europe. It is composed of islands which can be easily accessed from Frederikstad and Hvaler. As a tribute to the fallen sailors of the World Wars I and II, The Hall of Remembrance or Minnehallen was constructed by the government in the form of a stone pyramid. It stands lonely near the coast as a beacon to the martyrs. The inside of the hall contains copper tablets in memory of the dead. An epitaph written by Herman Wildenweys is also inscribed on the altar.
