If you're at the golf course at Moffett Field and you spot a GI, or other military personnel golfing, get used to it; Moffett Field Golf Course happens to be a army favorite. This field golf course has 18 holes, and you will get to see lakes and other water hazards here. Rental carts are available for those who just decided to tee off after checking the environs. Metal spikes are tolerated but not encouraged. Head to this Santa Clara county golf course for some real challenge.
Ponderosa Park provides 9 acres (3.64 hectares) of space for playing various sports, holding picnics and barbecue parties. It is divided into many areas such as three picnic zones, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, horseshoe pits, a multipurpose field and a children's playing zone. Kids can entertain themselves by playing on the numerous slides and rides, whilst adults have a shot at one of the games or simply lounge on the picnic sites enjoying the beautiful scenery. This park also provides clean restrooms and offers park buildings that can be rented for events.
Eagle Park and Pool is a popular place in downtown Mountain View. It features picnic spots, restrooms, athletic fields, a playground and many benches. Their well maintained pool is open for recreational swimming as well as for a lap swim. Lessons are also conducted during summers.
Adjacent to San Francisco Bay, Shoreline Golf Links is an 18-hole, championship golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones II and Associates. Part of Shoreline at Mountain View, a 750-acre regional open space area; Shoreline Golf Links features four sets of tees, 16 acres of fresh water lakes, practice facilities, Michaels Restaurant and a fully-stocked pro shop.
In addition to a three-hole golf course on site, this award-winning practice facility contains nearly 50 tee spaces and a 10,000-square-foot (929 square meter) putting range. One of the largest facilities of its kind in California, Pin High Family Golf Center has something for everyone, from the semi-pro to the beer-guzzling weekend golfer. An impressive pro shop is located on-site.
Shoreline Park encompasses the Shoreline Lake and offers expansive hills, the artificial lake and a golf course with 18 holes. Gusty winds in the area make Shoreline a popular location for windsurfers and kite-flyers. Hikers, walkers and bikers will find miles of winding natural and artificial trails to explore. It also houses the Shoreline Aquatic Cente which offers visitors facilities like kayaking, sailing, boating, canoeing and windsurfing. This park is also home to an amphitheater, a café and a Victorian house.
Located in Santa Clara, the Kona Kai Club is a sports and recreational private club that houses six tennis courts, two swimming pools (children and adults), volleyball and basketball court, large party room, game room and a picnic and BBQ area. The club offers swimming and tennis lessons for both adults and kids, with multiple programs throughout the year to hone your athletic skills.

Winter Lodge is the only permanent outdoor ice skating rink west of the Sierras and has been open since 1956. Open from September to April, the skating rink is a great holiday destination or weekend activity for kids and adults alike. There is one mid-sized outdoor rink and another, smaller rink indoors. Come by during the day for all-ages skating or come by at night for adults-only skating (perfect for a date). Inside the lodge, fireplaces and a hot chocolate vending machine provide a warm welcome to visitors. Skating lessons are also available.
Byxbee Park is a great place to spend a few hours away from the city. What was once a landfill is now an urban park filled with various modern concrete sculptures. It's also a great place to ride bikes along the trails, go birdwatching, or watch the windsurfers.
If you want to spend a fun-filled afternoon along with your entire family, head to the Blackberry Farm. This huge park offers something for everyone, kids will love to explore it and play here. The Baylands Nature Preserve is known for its birdwatching and is considered one of the best birdwatching areas on the West Coast, offering both tidal and fresh water habitats. This park boasts of a total of 1940 acres (785 hectares) of swampland, which is the largest tract of undisturbed swampland remaining in the Bay Area, and 15 miles (24 kilometers) of trails. Besides birdwatching, visitors can also enjoy canoeing, kayaking or windsurfing in the ponds and lakes. Educational signs have been put up in place to educate visitors about natural habitats. Kids will love Baylands too as it is home to the Palo Alto Duck Pond and the trails too vary in difficulty levels. This park is open daily from 8a till sunset.
