This small, no frills, charming landmark restaurant on St Helena's Island just outside Beaufort serves authentic Gullah cooking (African-American soul food influenced by Southern cuisine). Almost everything is made with locally grown produce and freshly caught seafood. Owned by Chef Bill Green, his varied menu includes Lowcountry Crab Soup and Fish Chowder, while entrees list fried shark strips, fried shrimp or fish, barbeque ribs and chicken. For dessert, diners can choose from sweet potato pie, peach cobbler or corn bread with strawberries. The right beverage to go with any meal is their Southern Sweet Tea. Specialty soups, gumbo, chowders and collards as well as rubs, seasonings and sauces can be ordered online for prompt delivery. Homemade desserts include Chocolate-Cinnamon Pluff Mud Cake or Mama Green's Banana Pudding. The chocolate sauce used on ice cream comes from Beaufort's The Chocolate Tree.
