»Big K.r.i.t.

February 27, 2015 9:00 PM

Mississippi-based rapper Justin Scott donned the pseudonym Big K.R.I.T., an acronym for King Remembered In Time, and began spitting rhymes in 2005. After releasing several mixtapes and gaining the respect of fellow hip-hop contemporaries such as Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa and Yelawolf, Big K.R.I.T leaked his debut album digitally, which impressed the head of Def Jam Records and earned the young rapper a record deal. Perhaps most famous for his single "Country Shit," which drew on Southern cultural references, Big K.R.I.T. quickly won over a large audience throughout the South, and with the help of Def Jam, spread this audience across the rest of the US.

»The 45th Annual Mid-south Conference On Communicative Disorders

February 27, 2015 8:00 AM

The University of Memphis Chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is pleased to be celebrating our 45th year of the Mid-South Conference on Communicative Disorders. Our conference began as a one-day, one-speaker event inspired by NSSLHA students in 1971, and has evolved to a 2-day event with over 700 attendees. Our hope is that all will benefit from the diverse presentations on assessment and treatment of individuals with communicative disorders and other related professional issues. In addition to a broad range of presentations and speakers, we are pleased to announce a variety of other events taking place during the conference. We have several companies and organizations from across the country that will be exhibiting their products and services for professionals. Some of their materials, along with other exciting items, ranging from pottery to sporting event tickets, can be found at the Silent Auction for bidding. This year the proceeds from the auction will be donated to NSSLHA Loves, Hope House, and the House of Light. Throughout the conference there will also be opportunities to sign letters to your Congressmen and Senators advocating support for current issues in our professions at the Legislative Table. A graduate student forum will also be conducted, featuring student research presentations and posters. Overall we are thrilled to share a diverse conference program with you, and hope you will take advantage of the ongoing events!   Visit the Hilton Memphis website to reserve your room for the conference!
