Constructed in 1928, Liberty Bridge is a historic link that connects Pittsburg to the Liberty Tunnels and South Hills neighborhoods. It carries motor vehicles, has four undivided lanes with the center lanes being reversible. The structure is made of steel cantilevers and concrete piers. The mammoth bridge spreads over a total length of 2663 feet (811 meters). Crossing the Monongahela River, it intersects Interstate 579 at its northern terminus. This bridge has also given way to direct auto routes of South Hall to and from downtown.
