    »Panda

This is an unusual combination of a traditional Chinese and traditional Norwegian restaurant. Chop suey or meatballs in brown sauce, the choice is yours. The obvious advantage is that you can bring people who don't like Chinese food. Perhaps your mother-in-law? Another different thing here is the interior. You would perhaps not expect an average Chinese restaurant to be minimalist and modern; however, the place is open and bright, and young people like it here. You can choose from a rich and varied menu that offers all your favorites from both countries, as well as a few surprises. One of their specialties, the chef's lobster, is very popular. The place is fully licensed.

    »Petrus

This is a regular hangout for many of the people who are lucky to live near the idyllic Sofienberg park in Grünerlkka. This restaurant is young, but already very popular among the locals. The place is painted in bright colors and looks pretty modern and fresh. Quite a few of the guests are closer to 50 than to 25. Many of them are regulars and the atmosphere is friendly and informal. The food served here is very traditional Norwegian. The menu offers many different dishes.

    »Mucho Mas

This is a small, stylish Mexican restaurant with a white, yellow and black interior. All kinds of people come here, celebrities as well as good old east enders who want a great, cheap meal, or perhaps just a few beers. A few years ago this was voted Oslo's best hangout, because it is so much more than just a restaurant. People often stand at the bar and wait half an hour for a free table. In such a narrow, crowded and hectic place you don't do that unless the food and atmosphere make it worthwhile: and they do here. The food is traditional Californian-Mexican and all dishes come with vegetarian versions. You can choose from well-known dishes such as burritos, tacos, quesadillas and chili con carne to name but a few.

    »Cafe Mir

Mir is the bar connected to the cultural center called Grünerlkka Lufthavn. They put on concerts (mostly techno, punk and underground), various kinds of workshops, and exhibitions. A small record company is based here, and several bands use the location for rehearsals. Mir is by many regarded as the heart of all this activity, with its rough, airport-like interior. They serve small dishes like bacon and eggs and different kinds of toasted sandwiches, coffee and tea, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Prices are low. In the evenings and at night the clientèle consists mainly of people in their twenties and thirties (many connected to the underground music movement), artists and students. Mir is well hidden. Look for a sign for Grünerlkka Lufthavn on Toftes gate, then turn right into the backyard.
