»Hoobastank

November 30, 2014 7:00 PM

Best known for its alternative hits from the early 2000s, Hoobastank is a rock band from Agoura Hills, California. Formed in 1994 the band got its start playing gigs at the Cobalt Cafe, a local venue in the San Fernando Valley, performing alongside early versions of bands like 311 and Incubus. Hoobastank's self-titled debut album, released in 2001, spawned the band's first hit singles and peaked at number one on the Billboard Heatseeker chart. Arguably the band's most successful album, The Reason was released in 2003 and features a title track that occupied the top spot on the Canadian singles chart for a record breaking 21 weeks. Though Hoobastank never recaptured the success it had in the early 2000s, the band continues to perform and record new music including its 2012 effort, Fight or Flight.

»James Zabiela

December 05, 2014 9:00 PM

When electronic beatsmith James Zabiela first started making music in the late '90s, it was the norm to use turntables to compose tunes. As time has worn on, though, and as technology has evolved, most electronic composers are working with computer software programs to orchestrate their futuristic sonnets. Taking heed of the changin' times, Zabiela has incorporated these cutting edge programs into his turntable centric sound and has arrived at a unique sound that pulls heavily from old school sounds but also modern aesthetics.
