Kettle Moraine State Forest is located about an hour southeast of downtown Milwaukee and it is definitely one of the best road trips you could ever take in order to experience the great outdoors. The park consists of two units, the Northern and Southern, and both require permits to hunt and fish. The northern end is filled with lakes and the southern end is filled with Ice Age trails that meander about the landscape. Some of the activities include cycling, fishing, kayaking, camping, horseback riding and cross-country skiing in the winter. It definitely is worth the trip from Milwaukee if you seek a bit of nature and wilderness.
