    Overkill
    Scout Bar - HoustonSeptember 16, 2014 8:00 PM
    18307 South Egret Bay Boulevard
    Houston, TX 77058
Formed in New Jersey in 1980, Overkill was part of the American thrash metal community that spawned bands such as Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer. Although it would never reach the same commercial peaks and worldwide success as its counterparts, Overkill nevertheless has done well for itself over the years. The band has experienced a number of lineup changes, but lead singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth and bass player D.D. Verni have remained as core members. Overkill's music falls in line with most all the familiar characteristics of thrash metal, from the rapid fire riffing to the intense and powerful musicianship. Still going strong, the band continues to tour and now has around 15 albums to its credit.

Houston Chamber Choir kicks off its 19th season with a celebration of the 450th birthday of Hans Leo Hassler, the first composer to bring the polychoral tradition he learned during his travels to Venice back to his native Germany. The evening's program features a sampling of the gorgeous polychoral music of Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli, who created a sensation in late 16th century Venice with their works for antiphonal choirs of singers and instruments, along with works they inspired by Hassler, Schütz and others. The preeminent Canadian sackbut and string ensemble ¡Sacabuche! joins the Houston Chamber Choir for this special concert event.
