The first harvest for the MacLeod Family Vineyard was in 1985. Originally, the vineyard simply sold grapes to some of the best known organic wineries in the business; however, it decidedly began making wine and giving private tasting tours drawing from years of knowledge and experience. Tours are given solely at 10a. Although the time may appear too early for wine tasting, this two-hour activity is one of the region's best. The MacLeod's are a humble family expressing a good sense of humor and passion for sharing knowledge about grapes and wine. Tasting is done on a hill overlooking the 50-acre (20-hectare) property. Each wine is paired with fruit or chocolate and plenty of laughter. Reservations are required. -Hoiyin Ip
Figone's of California Olive Oil Company is more than a charming store where people can taste and buy olive oil. The family's olive oil business dates back to the early 20th Century. Production was initially behind the scenes until it was later expanded to be a visible production environment intended for viewing. During harvest season, visitors can watch oil makers operating Rapanelli machinery while processing olives. There are twelve different kinds of olive oil and seven varieties of balsamic vinegar available. In addition, guests can purchase a variety of olive-based beauty products, gourmet food, Italian linen and ceramics. Ask staff to describe different olive oils and cooking tips to maximize your tasting experience. You may want to join the La Visione Club and have olive oil shipped to you quarterly. This perk is only available within the continental United States. -Hoiyin Ip
