The unique facility offers a performance venue like no other; as such, The Refuge can be described as an unusual amalgamation of a place of worship and a concert venue. The South Bay Historical Railroad Society houses the Edward Peterman Museum of Railroad History. Nichols Hall opened in 2008 and is located in the campus of Harker Upper School. This eco-friendly science and technology center is named in honor of Howard Nichols, the former head of the school. Spread across 50,000 square feet (4645.15 square meters), this steel, glass and concrete building features a glass gazebo with an enormous pendulum following the rotation of the earth, a forum with a fixed radiant floor and curvilinear roof system and a 200-seat auditorium with a living roof.
