    »The Odd Couple

    September 19, 2014 8:00 PM

Both male and female leads act out this classic buddy comedy in a pair of performances. When slovenly Oscar/Olive Madison takes in neurotic neat freak friend Felix/Florence Ungar, all comic hell breaks loose in Neil Simon's beloved comedy of hilariously mismatched roommates. The two friends get into increasingly heated squabbles over the state of Madison's apartment and reckless lifestyle. Ungar, however, seems incapable of enjoying life with the exception of pointing out other people's mistakes and bad habits. Debuting on Broadway in 1965, the Tony Award-winning comedy inspired a movie starring Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon, a TV series starring Tony Randall and Jack Klugman, and countless revivals -- both male and female -- on stages around the world.

»One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

    September 19, 2014 7:29 PM

Based on Ken Kesey's landmark novel -- later made into the iconic, Oscar-winning movie starring Jack Nicholson -- "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" follows Randle McMurphy, a small-time crook who fakes insanity to get out of a prison sentence. But instead of resting up at the state mental hospital, the rebellious yet charming McMurphy finds himself going toe-to-toe with the authoritarian Nurse Ratched as he attempts to stir up his fellow mental patients. The dynamics of live performance only heighten the tension between these two exquisitely drawn characters. Tough, touching and tragic, this American classic advocates poignantly for the dignity of every single person, no matter how "crazy" they might be.

    »The Aquabats

    September 19, 2014 6:00 PM

With its penchant for wearing masks and capes onstage, in addition to describing itself as "the first all-crime fighting, all-surfing rock super-group in history," it's easy to see that the Aquabats don't see the need to take things seriously. The group was part of the third wave ska craze of the mid-90s that saw like-minded bands like Reel Big Fish and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones briefly take over MTV and mainstream-radio airwaves. Lyrical depth is pretty much non-existent in the Aquabats repertoire; however, the touch of new wave influence and tales of skateboarding and boredom in the group's hometown of Orange County help the group stand out from its peers.

    »The Manhattans: R&b Quartet

    September 19, 2014 7:30 PM

Get ready to move and groove to an all-star evening of chart-topping, old-school funk and R&B at the Los Angeles County Fair. Headliners The Manhattans are a smoothed-out soul quartet who enjoyed amazing success in the '70s on the strength of the No.1 hit, "Kiss and Say Goodbye." They'll be joined at this up-tempo outdoor concert by masters of funk The Brothers Johnson, whose classic singles such as "Strawberry Letter 23" and "Stomp" have netted them Grammys and platinum-selling albums throughout their illustrious career. Finally, the former lead singer of Tower of Power, Lenny Williams, rounds out the bill with his soaring, gospel-infused vocals. Your ticket to this show includes same-day admission to the fair itself, so be sure to enjoy one of the country's biggest annual gatherings of food, educational booths and entertainment while you're at it.

    »Engelbert Humperdinck

    September 19, 2014 9:00 PM

Born Arnold Dorsey, UK crooner Engelbert Humperdinck knew early on that he wanted to be a musician, but had difficulty finding success after a decade of singing in night clubs. However, in the late 1960s, after changing his given name to that of the German composer, Humperdinck signed to Decca, which put out his single "Release Me," a track that topped the charts in the US and UK, impressively preventing the Beatles song "Strawberry Fields Forever" from ever obtaining the number one slot in the band's native country. With his smoothly sung lyrics about love and his charming good looks, the singer was bestowed with the nickname "King of Romance," and to this day continues to perform to smitten fans around the world.
