»Lang Lang

March 02, 2015 7:30 PM

Before the age of 20, Chinese pianist Lang Lang had already established himself as a virtuoso throughout the world. Beginning serious classical training at the age of three and making his public debut by the age of five, Lang Lang was eventually invited to play for the president at the Chinese Symphony Orchestra's inaugural concert at the age of 15. Even without taking his young age into account, Lang Lang is one of the world's most talented pianists alive today and undoubtedly worth seeing perform live.

You'd think because Orange County, California is a sunny place with an agreeable climate that's populated by reasonably attractive people, a band that calls the location home would make music that's upbeat, approachable and easy to listen to. This assumption would be wrong, surprisingly. Well, there are bands from Orange County that make affable music, but one band in particular from OC that's fairly antagonistic is the melodic hardcore band Stick To Your Guns. The group formed in 2003 and after playing a good amount of shows on its home turf, it managed to find a sizable following that has only grown with time.

Pierce the Veil is a rock band from San Diego that was formed in 2006 by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes. As a duo, the brothers recorded an entire album titled A Flair for the Dramatic, and released it in 2007 as Pierce the Veil. Soon after securing a bassist and guitarist, the band spent a good portion of 2007 and 2008 on the road, joining prominent rock acts on the Vans Warped Tour and sharing the stage with bands such as Emery and The Devil Wears Prada. Pierce the Veil released its second album Selfish Machines in 2010 followed by 2012's Collide with the Sky, which the band supported with its first ever headlining tour of the UK.

»Once - A New Musical

March 03, 2015 7:30 PM

Adapted for the stage from the 2006 film of the same name, Once is a musical that follows the story of a street busker who falls in love with an unattainable woman. Often described as somewhat of an "anti-musical," the show features song performances without the standard Broadway elements of elaborate set designs, ornate costumes or general pageantry. Instead, the characters, who remain unnamed throughout the production, sing their songs in a raw manner as the woman helps the man realize his dreams of becoming an established musician and moving to New York. After premiering on Broadway 2011, Once quickly won the accolades of critics and patrons alike, locking down a total of eight Tony Awards in 2012.
