The Texas-based blues rock outfit ZZ Top rose to prominence in the early 1970s with its dirty brand of southern rock and wailing guitar solos. After releasing its 1971 debut album, fittingly titled ZZ Top's First Album, the band established its raw, earthy sound and attitude with fuzzy guitars and rollicking rhythms. Each of the band's subsequent releases throughout the decade earned critical acclaim and a fair amount of radio play, proving that the three-piece band's Texas drawls and dirty jokes resonated with fans outside of the Lone Star State. ZZ Top continues to release its bluesy southern rock music and remains one of the most easily identifiable acts around with two of its three members sporting bushy, chest-length beards.

Death and its mysteries remain a source of curiosity and fear in even the modern world, and the Centro Cultural Aztlán has taken San Antonio's folklore and superstitions and molded them into an awe-inspiring display spanning over a month in fall. Remembrances of ancestral beliefs, memorabilia and festivities celebrate the days preceding and following the 2nd of November, which is universally accepted as the day of the dead. Harvest rituals, altars and Central Mexican culture displays complete the exhibits presented throughout the city. People are encouraged to draw on their artistic skills, family traditions and beliefs to create exhibits and submit them to the center.

Long considered to be the Tejano capital of the United States, San Antonio is a culturally rich city in Texas that has seen its fair share of historical events. While the city's cousin, Austin, normally gets all the cred for being a music capital, most people don't realize that San Antonio has a good amount of adept musicians who contribute to the overall musically rich mecca that is San Antonio. One such byproduct is the San Antonio Symphony. Formed in 1887 by a German immigrant, the orchestra plays from September to early June and incorporates several local South West instrumental flourishes into its repertoire.
