The Killpecker Sand Dunes are one of the major attractions of the Red Desert. The second largest shifting dunes in the world, they are an incredible sight to see. Outdoor and sporting enthusiasts will enjoy the off-road area perfect for zipping around on off-road vehicles, horse-back riding or even just nature observation around the ponds and lakes throughout the sand dunes. Intrepid travelers can locate one of the most fascinating geological formations in the area, the Boar's Tusk that suddenly rises out of the largely barren landscape in a dramatic rise, located approximately 30 miles from Rock Springs. Catch the dunes at sunrise or sunset for a glimpse of the characteristic red hue that infuses the landscape in a breath-taking wash of color. For more details on activities in the area, do's and don't and additional information, visit the website or contact the Bureau of Land Management office in Rock Springs.
