    »Judas Priest With Steel Panther

    October 01, 2014 7:00 PM

Judas Priest formed in 1970 in Birmingham, England, when hard rock was in its infancy. As the group played on and on, honing its sound, it was able to champion a distinct metal sound that fused gothic doom with guitar riffs played at a vicious speed. A necessary predecesor to the speed and death metal of the '80s, Judas Priest came to be know as the "Gods of Metal." Though lead singer Rob Halford left the band for a period of time, he returned and now the band is once again a harrowing metal powerhouse.

    »Dopapod

    October 02, 2014 9:00 PM

The cross-genre sound of Dopapod is the result of fearless experimentation and a disregard for stylistic rules. With a buffet mix of influences that includes electronic and indie, classic and alternative rock, the four-piece band from Brooklyn first captured its sound in 2009 with its debut album Radar. Critically acclaimed for its experimental finesse, the album set the standard high for Dopapod and the band responded with its 2011 live follow-up I Saw Live Dopapod Live Evil I Was. Though recorded live the record featured spliced and mixed multi-track recordings that demonstrated the bands mastery of both dubstep drops and guitar-powered rock. Dopapod released its second studio album, Drawn Onward, in 2011.

    »Pujol

    October 02, 2014

Primarily the project of Southern garage rocker Daniel Pujol, this four-piece live band takes Pujol's last name and leaves polished production behind. Admittedly a bunch of slackers, Pujol sings of everyday life, mixing pop culture references with literary metaphors, and backs them with scuzzy guitars and flippant bass lines. Based out of Nashville, the band picked up instruments in 2009 and began playing its lo-fi rock to audiences across the South, eventually releasing a debut EP in 2010.

    »Nas

    October 02, 2014 8:00 PM

Nas is a rapper with a turbulent past. Born Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, he grew up in the projects of New York City, dropped out of school in the eighth grade and soon began making a name for himself as a rapper. He quickly gained clout as a prodigious lyricist, and in 1991 he performed at Main Source's "Live at the Barbeque," under his then alias, Nasty Nas. Soon, he was making a name for himself as one of America's premier rappers with monumental albums like 1994's Illmatic--an LP that has prompted many to say that Nas basically invented "good rap music." Famous for his feud with Jay-Z in 2001, Nas has gone on to collaborate with rap artists like P. Diddy, Kanye West and Dr. Dre.

    »Bassnectar

    October 03, 2014

If there's a name that commands respect amid the modern electronic music scene it's undoubtedly Bassnectar. The San Francisco Bay Area-based beat mixer extraordinaire is one of the more predominant figures in the modern electronic genre and consistently manages to change and evolve his sound as time and technology permit. Bassnectar, or Lorin Ashton, describes his sound as "omni-tempo maximalism" --a slightly ambiguous term that was created to pinpoint the myriad of sounds Bassnectar employs in his music. The various genres he regularly samples typically center around ragtime, punk rock, gangsta rap, Balkan gypsy music, death metal and dub.
