While Fitz and the Tantrums looks like a band straight out of the 1960s, complete with a horn section decked out in white suits and a soulful front woman in a form-fitting, glitzy gown, the band's music is surprisingly not a direct replica of 1960s soul. This era is certainly the Los Angeles-based, seven-piece group's primary influence, but instead of producing completely retro music, the band incorporates enough modern elements to be considered a neo-soul group that would satisfy the tastes of mainstream pop-rock audiences. Further proving this ability to fit in with the mainstream, Fitz and the Tantrums toured with Maroon 5 after its debut album Pickin' Up the Pieces, in 2010 and won over fans across the US.

Formed as a side project of the band Agnostic Front, Madball was born out of the New York hardcore scene of the 1980s. The side project eventually became the band's main focus and Madball began performing regularly in NY underground venues. Though the new group produced music almost indistinguishable from its former band, it did incorporate slightly more of a crossover-thrash sound into its hardcore punk sound. Madball developed a devout fan base and was included in the 1995 documentary N.Y.H.C., which discussed the formation of New York's hardcore scene. Since then, the band has changed lineups multiple times, but has continued to release albums and tour worldwide.

Since its inception in 2000, the Columbus, Ohio-rooted trio Rascal Flatts has established itself as one of the more successful country pop bands in America. The group began to take shape in the latter half of the 1990s, when cousins Gary LeVox and Jay Demarcus reconvened in their new home of Nashville, hoping to begin writing songs together. Soon after, guitarist Jon Don Rooney was asked to join the group and Rascal Flatts was born. The trio's wholesome and radio-friendly combination of harmony-heavy country balladry and slick pop songcraft has won it an impressive collection of accolades, including seven platinum albums, over a dozen number one singles and a handful of Grammy Award nominations.

Hailing from Queens, NY Mobb Deep is a hip-hop duo made up of Havoc and Prodigy. When the two critically acclaimed artists teamed up in 1992, they quickly rose as one of the most successful hardcore rap duos, particularly after releasing the landmark album The Infamous, in 1995. A heavy hitter in the East Coast versus West Coast feud, much of Mobb Deep's material from the 1990s came in response to tracks by West Coast artists including 2Pac and Snoop Dogg. After seven studio albums, including the group's 2006 release with 50 Cent's G-Unit Records Blood Money, Mobb Deep called it split up, embarking on an indefinite hiatus that lasted only until 2013.

Popa Chubby (a play on the slang expression "pop a chubby") is the stage name for Ted Horowitz, an electric blues singer/songwriter and guitarist from the Bronx in New York City whose aggressive style of blues combined with an almost overwhelming stage presence has led many to view Chubby as one of the more authentic electric blues acts out there. However, despite being an American performing uniquely American music, Popa Chubby's act has proven to be much more popular in Europe, particularly in France.

Tulsa, Oklahoma band, Broncho, formed in early 2010 as a side project for members of various other Oklahoma bands. By February, the group was playing live shows--short sets consisting of two minute garage ditties--and a few months after that, it had released an album. While Broncho considers itself punk rock, the majority of its recorded songs reflect a blend of Ramones-esque pop and slightly lo-fi garage, resulting in a palatable form of modern rock n' roll. The band's live shows, however, do showcase a more punk aesthetic, with a DIY sound and an aggressive playing style.
