Arts & Museums
Spread over 240,000 sq. ft, the Clay Center For The Arts & Sciences West Virginia was opened in July 2003. Since it houses an arts and science center as well as a museum, it's fair to say that it is the cultural vein of the city of Charleston. The resident Intermezzo Cafe is a stylish and intimate space to sip some steaming hot coffee and munch on tidbits. Check website for more details on the science galleries, permanent collection and ongoing exhibitions.
The West Virginia State Museum like all other museums seeks to disseminate, collect, preserve, nourish and exhibit artifacts, and it has done just that with great gusto this far! Touching upon almost all aspects of the lives of West Virginia's folks over the ages, expect to encounter some great displays related to history, paleontology, archaeology, art and geology. A wonderful time is guaranteed at this classy museum.
The Huntington Museum Of Art possesses an astounding number of artifacts which have been wonderfully preserved through the centuries, and which lay as a testament to Huntington's splendid past. Born out of a gift of 50 acres by Herbert Fitzpatrick who even donated his private collection of silver, prints, pray rugs, sculptures and glass, every visitor is fascinated by this museum. Events held here include discussions, workshops, nature trails and even theater and concerts.
