Formed underwater 10,000 to 100,000 years ago, these calcium carbonate spires form the most unusual landscape in the California Desert. The Trona Pinnacles comprises of 500 tufa pinnacles ascending from the Searles Dry Lake basin's bed were created during three ice ages and are divided into three groups depending upon their elevation and age. Subsequently they categorized into four shapes as well such as the cones, tombstones, towers and ridges. This region was once an ocean and the sight is magical. If you like to visit geological wonders, then this is a must see.
38 years were taken for the construction of the half mile (0.8 kilometer) long Burro Schmidt Tunnel. Though the time-span may seem ridiculous for such a small stretch, but it is plausible, because the entire tunnel was dug out with limited resources. William Henry Schmidt began digging the tunnel in 1906 during his mining process for gold. He used only a shovel, pick, hammer and dynamite, to cut through solid granite. His efforts finally bore fruition in 1938.
