Nestled in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood, The Butterworth Building was erected to serve as the city's first mortuary in 1903. It functioned as the Butterworth & Sons mortuary, until a new location was chosen in 1923. Housing three floors, the topmost provided accommodation for employees, while the remaining were used as coffin showroom, embalming room, morgue and private offices. The building lies vacant, but the basement is home to the popular Kells Irish Restaurant and Pub
. Rumor has it, that ghosts lurk throughout the building, making it a great exploration zone for lovers of paranormal activity.
