»Megan Lane w/ Condition One Live @ The Capitol

March 06, 2015 9:30 PM

Megan LaneBy tooth and claw, Megan Lane emerges as one of Canadas best female guitarists with her latest release Sounding the Animal. Produced by the deft hand of Hawksley Workman, Lanes cut-to-the-bone guitar solos and unbridled voice are set loose amidst the analog tones of classic rock and the punchy synthetic textures of today. Dealt with acuity at every level of its creation, Sounding the Animal includes two co-writes with Workman and one with Canadian underground indie music hero Rae Spoon, and was mixed by Matt Dematteo and mastered by SENSEI. The albums artwork was drawn by internationally exhibiting artist Zachari Logan and is reflective of the wild spaces and untamed personalities referred to in the record.

Writing music at a young age, Vancouver-based Dan Mangan initially began his musical endeavors as a part of a band in high school. While his band members moved on after graduating, Mangan stuck to music and took out loans to finance his debut album, which he released at the age of 20, in 2005. The Canadian singer/songwriter slowly began receiving more attention for his Americana ballads and was signed to indie powerhouse label Arts & Crafts, and was subsequently nominated for a Polaris award, all of which helped grow his international fame.

»In Flames / All That Remains / Wovenwar

March 14, 2015 6:30 PM

In Flames is a metal band from Sweden that has constantly reinvented its sound throughout a decades long career. The band emerged out of Gothenburg, Sweden in 1990 playing melodic death metal and quickly collected a fan base of metal purists. Since the release of its debut album Lunar Strain, in 1994, the band's straightforward sound of screaming vocals and layered guitar melodies took on alternative metal elements as In Flames evolved to fit the times. Using sung vocals, prominent rhythm guitar sections, and synthesizers the band slowly split its fans yet simultaneously collected a broadened its audience. By the time its the band released its tenth album, Sounds of a Playground Fading in 2011, its sound held obvious American metal influences that make its music more accessible to western audiences.
