»Larry Coryell W/john & Gerald Clayton

April 18, 2015 6:00 PM

Gerald Clayton is a modern jazz pianist who is known for his abilities to play in both classic and experimental styles. Born in the Netherlands and raised in California, Clayton was brought up in a musical household. His father, John Clayton, is an award-winning bass player who has arranged and performed with the likes of Quincy Jones, Whitney Houston, Count Basie and Diana Krall. This passionate love for music was passed down to Gerald, who began studying piano and jazz composition when he was seven years old. He performs both solo and with various groups and collaborative projects, including the Gerald Clayton Trio and The Clayton Brothers. His love for alternatingly adhering to jazz's preexisting guidelines and respectfully working outside of them has helped him land in the top-tier of the genre's modern performers.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are a Major League Baseball team and a member of the National League Central Division. Established in 1882, the franchise joined the National League in 1887. Perhaps the biggest highlight in franchise history came in 1960 during Game 7 of the World Series. Down 7-4 to the powerful New York Yankees, the Pirates won the game and the championship when Bill Mazeroski hit a walk-off home run. Some of the greatest players in Pirates history include Honus Wagner, Roberto Clemente, and Willie Stargell.

»Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre: La Bayadere

April 18, 2015 2:00 PM

Since the inception of staged song and dance performances, few productions have been as impactful and influential as the Russian ballet La Bayadere, which premiered in 1877. One of the first elaborately staged ballets that involved multiple costume changes, set design and special effects, La Bayadere helped set the stage for a plethora of epic ballets that would arise in its wake of success. Centering around an exotic story of Middle Eastern conquests and star crossed lovers, when the ballet debuted in the 19th Century it was unlike anything most theater goers had ever seen. Because of its emotional depth and enormous stage theatrics, La Bayadere has experienced a number of revivals all over the world including New York, Paris and Tokyo.
