»Grammar Keepers With Gretchen Bernabei - Mcallen

January 30, 2015 8:30 AM

Grammar Keepers with Gretchen Bernabei January 30, 2015 in McAllen, Texas 8:30am - 2:30pm Revising and editing questions on STAAR count more now than they ever have before, and help is here.  Gretchen Bernabei delivers 101 easy, quick, kid-friendly lessons and a way to easily keep track of what youve taught.  Teachers have the autonomy to cover lessons in any order they like, equipped with short lessons and student-written journal entries to use as lively, funny, touching mentor text.   Youll learn:  Star Points, Proof Words, Paragraph Overhauls, Sentence Wringers  Who is it for? Grades 3-high school Most of the grammar rules tested at high school are introduced at grades 2, 3, and 4, so this workshop will be useful for anyone getting students ready for the STAAR writing assessments. What people are saying: This fall, I had a group of juniors who were still working to pass English I STAAR.  I implemented Star Points that semester and when I compared their editing scores from the summer retest to December, I saw a 20% increase.  I absolutely attribute that to Star Points!      -Suzanne Langston, Mesquite ISD So often I attend workshops where excellent strategies are presented and the foremost thought in my brain is, I will have to wait to implement that until next year when I have time to plan.  Today has given me hope and has broken the cycle of getting, filing, and forgetting.  I can go back to school tomorrow and begin using everything I have learned!  My pattern is now changing to learning, teaching, implementing.  Thank you, Gretchen, for helping me find my optimism for teaching writing again. -Christy Westbury, McKinney ISD     I enjoyed the simplicity of the organizers.  I think that I will be able to enhance some of the experience that my more confident writers are having , and demystify writing for my reluctant students.    Oliver Jones, Lake Dallas     So motivational! Gretchen taught me how to take blah to bling.   Sarah Easterwood, Belton     The workshop was chock full of helpful hints, tips, and tricks to equip and empower teachers to ignite, tend, and share the power of language.  In short, it rocked.   Lexie Smith, Jubilee Academic     Want to attend the most amazing and useful teacher workshop of your career? Attend a Bernabei workshop and you will not be disappointed.  Her books and teaching strategies work!  This is my second time and I learned even more, going deeper.  These techniques for teaching writing can make a huge positive impact on student success in writing.    Tina Arons, Fort Worth     This workshop was very fun,  She makes it easier than the easy-bake-oven that I once had when I was a child.    Sandra Velarde, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo     As an instructional coach whose strength is mathematics, I feel less comfortable supporting my teachers with writing, and they always want help with it. Now I feel like I might be able to support them in a meaningful way.    Carolyn Bence, Corpus Christi     Great information! I cant wait to go back to campus and share this with teachers.  I think this will be great for using across content areas.   Rasheda Malveaux, Spring     Teachers frequently ask for lessons and activities that they can utilize right away and this workshop provided just that.  Gretchen is so down-to-Earth and makes everything clear to understand.  I cant wait to attend another Gretchen Bernabei workshop!   Erica Arevalo, Instructional Coach, Corpus Christi     Its not often you go to a workshop and come away with so many ideas and tricks to immediately use in the classroom.  Thank you!    Lindsey Green, Decatur     Thank you for sharing your profoundly simple and workable ideas.  Im looking forward to making quick lists, writing kernel paragraphs, and ba-da-binging some sentences with my ELL students.   Felicia Maden, Marshall     Never a dull moment!!  Gretchen makes teaching writing seem like a doable task.   Kim Horton, Carthage     This workshop is awesome!  Great explanations and answers to all the questions that were floating through my head on how to teach expository essays!   Tayler Griffin, Lubbock     We left feeling empowered and ready to tackle the beast from a new direction.  Thank you, thank you.   Janella Betz, Jasper     I cant wait to share with my team!   Beverly Harper, Klein     I love that Gretchen is a Texas teacher.  She knows Texas expectations and Texas students.  These are lessons I will be able to implement with my 4th graders tomorrow!   Megan Baker, Montgomery     Great workshop!  Very practical things to take away and use in the classroom starting tomorrow!     Heather Reed, New Caney     Thank you!  I am ready to teach my kids how to pass the writing on STAAR, plus some great writing strategies they can carry with them for life.   Nancy McClain, Cleveland     By demystifying writing structures and test expectations with kernel essays, Gretchen helps us see with clarity the simplicity and effectiveness of classroom writing.   Arcelia Leon, Aldine     As a first-year writing teacher for 4th grade,  I plan to use many of these strategies in my classroom immediately.   Olivia Young, Aledo     Wow! My students writing has drastically improved in just a matter of days! These strategies were EXACTLY what my students needed to tie everything together. EVERY student has been successful with EVERY strategy they have tried. They are thinking on a higher level, writing at a higher level, and in turn, succeeding at a higher level.   Kayla Shook, fourth grade teacher, San Marcos     My STAAR scores are 90%! I couldnt have done it without you.   Shelley Fisette, seventh grade teacher, Hemphill     Our students are already learning how to use these strategies. I am amazed at how much their writing has improved in just TWO weeks! It is truly incredible.   Shera Rasmussen, English II teacher, Wichita Falls Participants will receive copies of Gretchens new book:  Grammar Keepers Gretchen Bernabei is the winner of NCTEs James Moffett Award.
