»Caixa de Rotllan

The Caixa de Rotllan is a historic monument located in the Pyrénées-Orientales region of France and erected in honor of Roland, the great Grankish warrior who was killed by the Basques in the Roncevaux Pass Battle. The Neolithic tomb consists of three standing granite stones with a thick stone roof on top, creating a small burial chamber. It is believed that after his death, Roland's body was carried by his trustworthy horse Veillantif, back to the village of Vallespir where he lived and later buried here under the stone dolmen.
