Tracing its root as far back as the early 19th Century, Belmont-DeVilliers is one of the city's oldest quarters. The neighborhood has a rich African-American heritage as they were some of the first settlers in the area. Some of the city's oldest structures can be found in the area. The Basilica of St. Michael The Archangel in Pensacola is a Catholic church that is built in Gothic Revival style of architecture. Imposing red doors welcome you inside the regal structure where you can attend mass or even spend some time in prayer. The historic church interiors have been well-preserved, with the beautiful stained-glass windows being a highlight. The church was canonized in 1781.
A lush green lawn and trees surround the Plaza Ferdinand VII on Palafox Street. Named after a 19th-century Spanish royal the sprawling park houses a beautiful fountain, benches, a canon and the bust of General Andrew Jackson. Fort Barrancas is a military base that enunciates the naval and military history of the city. The fort has witnessed the American Civil War and many other battles. The Lavelle House, also referred to as the Charles Lavelle House, is one of first houses in town offering public guided tours. It was constructed in 1905 and is located in the Historic Pensacola Village. The house consists of varied rooms that are well furnished, and the structure is characterized by a French Creole Period style. An array of tours are arranged for the house and the vicinity. These tours mostly focus on Pensacola’s history as a Spanish Colony. The hanging panetiere in the kitchen and the rope bed are rare sights seen in the house. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 11, 1971.

The height of the wall is approximately 8 feet and 256 feet long with names inscribed on the granite face of the wall.
