Formerly the Diocese of Lescar, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Lescar is one of the most important churches in the town of Lescar. Built somewhere in 1120, this religious gem has become one of the most visited sites in the city. The exterior of this Cathedral contains fine examples of Roman and early Christian architecture. Very historic, from within one can find the tomb of the grandparents of the last King of Navarre, beautiful murals, rich ancient ornaments, an altar and a very gorgeous statue of St. Galactoire. Visitors and tourists can visit the place, and there is even a guided tour of the cathedral where one can get acquainted with the history and importance of this 12th-century marvel.
