Jim Ruddy has been collecting bits and pieces of American products, displays and advertising images for more than 35 years. Then, just to round out his collection, he bought a Midwest museum of mid-20th century retail items. The end result is this gem of a general store/museum, set up with the antique cabinets of an earlier time. On the shelves, many visitors see packages they knew well as young children and remember buying with their allowance pennies. Although nothing is for sale, it is still a really interesting and unique point-of-interest and don't forget to bring some change (in any amount) to enter the museum.
This discounted women's wear shop promises 50-80% off of department store prices on everything, every day. It offers plenty of selections in large sizes up to 3x. Amusing decorative plaques support the cheery, neo-feminist attitude of the shop: "A woman has never shot her husband while he's doing dishes." There is a strict "no refund" policy, and exchanges are accepted only within five days with receipt, so be sure you want what you purchase. Most ATM cards are accepted as well as the credit cards listed below.
Founded in 1862 on the East Coast, this classic department store focuses on soft goods and a few home accessories. Many of the fabrics are deluxe. In addition, the quality of all the items is very good, attracting a faithful following of customers who return year after year. Look for shoes, men's and women's clothing, sportswear, Moderna shirts and Versace ties. The large shop is located on the La Plaza arcade, but opens onto Palm Canyon Drive.

If you have become addicted to sophisticated Martini drinks, check out the selection of glasses and shakers perfect for enhancing your home bar. In a warm, well-lit atmosphere, lamps, framed prints, watches, gourmet or quirky kitchenware, and other small objects are displayed for your perusal.
It makes sense that a shop devoted to the pleasures of light, filmy gauze clothing would be popular in the desert heat of Palm Springs, and to prove it, this shop has just expanded to a new, larger location. The natural cotton fabrics drape beautifully. Most of the items are in light or pastel colors, but there's also a seasonal selection of earth tone fabrics. Find gauze blouses, dresses, skirts, wraps and other accessories, along with the hats, belts and adornments to make the gauzy look work.
This no-nonsense mall offers great value and a wide selection of virtually everything one needs to live, from clothing to office supplies, Rite-Aid prescription drugs to Vons groceries. There are also services including vision care and eyeglasses, a nail salon and hairstylists, as well as a handful of boutiques clustering around the Harris Gottschalk's department store. The Palm Springs Festival of Arts theater is located at one side of the generous parking lot.
This shop features many works by African artisans, including clothing and comfortable traditional tribal wear, accessories, jewelry, basketry, drums, masks, and exotic tea.
This landmark golfer's shopping paradise has recently expanded to offer even more golf-related merchandise. The staff is comprised of "Professional Golf Enthusiasts," who are "Custom Fit Certified" by Lumpy's. The staff members advise on everything from whether those pants look good with that shirt, to what loft driver you should be swinging. Lob wedge? High loft wedge? Ask if they're right for you. The shelves and aisles are filled with the best names in golf. Look for Callway, Cobra, Footjoy, Taylor Made, Tiger Shark and many other established brands. Worldwide shipping is available.
After 18 years in the same location, it's obvious that Roger Dunn knows what customers want and need, and what prices to charge in the competitive Coachella Valley golf culture. Everything is discounted from standard prices. A broad range of merchandise is available. You'll find golf ball retrievers and Muirdale pull carts, Orlimar clubs and discounted shorts, shirts and ball packs. Not quite a factory outlet, this shop is often selected by manufacturers to help liquidate their overstocks at the end of the season. Look for good prices throughout the year.
