This non-professional community theater has been producing plays since 1913; they are known for their high quality performances generated by a dedicated group of volunteers. The 510-seat theater runs eight productions from September through May, and one popular musical production in the summer season. Tickets are reasonable and the atmosphere is relaxed yet highly professional for a community theater. Recent seasons have included everything from Noel Coward's Waiting in the Wings to John Bishop's The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940.

The Department of Theatre at the University of Ottawa is a respected department with several facilities at its disposal. The Academic Hall is its main performing space where major shows are held. If you're 25 and over and you feel like avoiding Ottawa's very young nightclub crowd, the Velvet Room is an excellent nightclub option. The decor is both opulent and understated - lashings of dark red velvet, artfully lit by antique lamps; lots of little nooks to snuggle into with your friends, or partner; gilded mirrors wherever you turn. The music is a fun mix of the best of the 80s and 90s - a DJ spins all the favorites on Friday and Saturday nights. The drinks list is a little on the pricey side.
