The Vallhall Arena is located in the Valle-Hovin area of the city, just off the E6. This indoor arena is one of the biggest in the country, and the biggest yet in Oslo, and is the premier destination for association football or soccer matches. During matches and games, the arena can accommodate about 5500, and features an artificial turf. Housed in an industrial building that dates back to the 1940s, Kanonhallen plays host to myriad cultural events. This cavernous space can accommodate a maximum of 740 people for events ranging from concerts and exhibitions to fashion shows and conferences. It has often been used as a studio for music recordings, television shows and even films.
Primarily an ice-rink during winters, summers see Valle Hovin transform into a open-air concert venue which can hold an audience of upto 40,000. The ice rink is utilized for bandy and speed skating tournaments and championships, and is also open to the public. Black Box Teater at Aker Brygge hires out its two stages to free theatrical projects and groups. Home to the Vålerenga ice hockey, Jordal Amfi is an indoor skating stadium with a capacity of 4,450. Built for the 1952 Winter Olympics this was Norway's first purpose-built ice hockey arena. Besides international ice hockey championships, the stadium has hosted figure skating events and boxing matches in the past. It also has its own practice facility for the home-team called Jordal Ungdomshall with a capacity of upto 400.
One of the prominent sites for theater in the city, the Torshovteatret is the fourth venue to be opened by the National Theater of Norway. Located in the popular neighborhood of Torshov, this theater was opened in 1977, taking over the building which housed an old library. The theater, in a round room setting, can accommodate about 200 guests. Since its opening, the Torshovteatret has been a space where artists can experiment with new techniques of theater and present their talents and views in novel ways, and is today one of the most prominent theaters in the country.
Kulturslottet Soria Moria is a lovely neoclassical building that was built in 1928 and over the years has seen many changes but it has stood there as home to many establishments.
