    Old Stone Wharf Archaeological Site

    S. Riverside Drive & Clinch Street
    New Smyrna Beach, FL
    +1 386 478 0052
Once part of the Turnbull colony settlement in New Smyrna, the Old Stone Wharf Archaeological Site was built by Mediterranean settlers in the 17th Century. Included on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, the wharf was composed primarily of Coquina, a unique material that is cut from deposits of shells and corral, and served as an important access point to the colony, as water travel was safer, faster and more reliable than road travel at the time. The ruins of this historical site can still be seen daily during low-tide.
