Petrie Island, situated along the Ottawa River in north-eastern Orleans, is nothing short of nature's brilliance. This island came to existence, with the deposition of clay and sand by the riverbank, owing to geological processes during the Ice Age. Petrie Island covers a group of small wetlands connected by Trim Road, the central roadway. The parkland is rich in marine life and a breeding ground for turtles, migratory birds and plants. One of the largest French language colleges in the province of Ontario, La Cité collégiale is situated in Ottawa.
