Over the last 21 years, this animal-rehabilitation center has treated and released more than 7,000 birds of prey, including eagles, hawks, vultures and owls. To learn more about these creatures, come by for a visit to Audubon Center for Birds of Prey. Twenty-two species are on view, including the famous bald eagles. The animals here cannot be returned to the wild, mostly because of health reasons. The center also hosts an adopt-a-wild-bird program.
Located in the center of Orlando, Calvary is a multi-ministry church. Calvary Assembly Of God believes in the divine grace of Jesus and serves everybody, from the newly born to the elderly. Offering a whole range of community programs for all sections of society, including a nursery and classes for school children, a gym and a family life center, this church is an active one. Scenic Boat Tour, located north of Orlando in the friendly old-style Florida town of Winter Park, provides guests a chance to discover and witness firsthand the fascinating history of the region aboard an excursion boat. Loch Haven Park sits on 45 acres (18.2 hectares) north of downtown Orlando and provides visitors a chance to experience Mother Nature and numerous enlightening activities. Encompassed by three lakes and filled with massive oak trees, this park is the site of some of Orlando's top attractions. Spend time enjoying the natural Florida surroundings or visit one of the numerous nearby cultural attractions including the Orlando Museum of Art, Mennello Museum of American Art, Orlando Science Center, Orlando Repertory Theatre, Orlando Shakespeare Theatre, Orlando Fire Museum and Orlando Garden Club. Throughout the year, several of the city's festivals, fairs and special events are held on the grounds of the Loch Haven Park. The park is open from 5a. until sunset.
According to Newsweek, this piece of 1950s architecture serves as one of the best art museums in the South. Founded in 1924, the museum now consists of three permanent exhibits - the American Collection, housing nearly 900 paintings, prints, photographs and sculptures from the 19th century onward; the Art of Ancient Americans Collection, boasting 500 artifacts of jade, gold and clay from Mexican, Costa Rican and Peruvian cultures; and an African collection of more than 70 artifacts, including masks, from various West African countries. OMA also hosts rotating exhibits. Residents of Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties receive free admission.
This lovely 50-acre botanical garden situated on Lake Rowena offers visitors a chance to escape into Old Florida. Wander miles of paved paths through forests of giant camphors, oaks and palms. The formal Rose Garden is the largest in the South, but don't pass up the opportunity to visit the herb, butterfly, palm and bamboo gardens as well. Towering over all this natural wonder is the Leu House. Built in 1888, it now serves as a decorative-arts museum.
Feel like burning off a workweek's worth of stress? Consider a visit to this facility, which offers a variety of survival games in which opponents shoot at each other with paint pellets. A traditional game scenario includes two teams infiltrating each other's territory and attempting to capture the other team's flag. Visitors can play in indoor or outdoor arenas. Inside are game areas featuring two-story towers, forts, bunkers and medieval structures. Outside are four themed fields and a cluster of futuristic structures.
This 52-acre preserve offers a meandering nature trail perfect for quiet hikes. Stroll through wetlands, taking in the educational displays that dot the path. You may encounter native Florida birds, such as herons and egrets, and, if you're lucky, a deer or two. Leashed pets are allowed. All in all, Howell Branch Nature Preserve is a nice spot for a relaxing getaway.
Northwest Community Church is not just any other religious sight. This church aims at healing people, spreading the message of oneness and help people reach Christ. The various weekend gatherings, conferences and classes help people value relationships and educates them about the diverse aspects of life. Here, everyday you can witness creativity galore as this place showcases theatre plays, dance shows, dance workshops and other cultural activities. Established in 1989, Lake Eola Heights is a historic district. It features roughly 570 buildings and is one of the oldest and architecturally-diverse locations in Orlando. The streetscape is stunning and features several brick structures amidst greenery. The Historic Preservation Board takes due care in restoring the buildings that create a serene and architecturally-supreme atmosphere consciously preserved over the years.
The UCF Center is located in what was formerly the Expo Center. The Center is now part of The UCF School of Film and Digital Media, and the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy. The Center has stunning location right next to the awe-inspiring Orlando Marriott Downtown Hotel. The UCF Center hosts seminars affiliated to the University of Central Florida which are open to the general public, as well as some conferences which are open to invitees only.
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Lake Eola is an ideal quick jaunt. The lake is a part of a park complex that has a lovely sidewalk, which encircles the lake and serves as a running track. The park is a whopping 43.2 acres, making it the perfect place to get away!
