Taos, New Mexico has attracted many artists with its beauty and mixture of Tao Pueblo Indian and Hispanic culture. Out of this mixture, the first art colony in the American West arose. Local Taos artists Joseph Henry Sharp, Bert Geer Phillips, Oscar E. Berninghaus, W. Herbert Dunton, E. Irving Couse and Ernest Blumenschein formed this society to be able to market their paintings in the East as well as locally. Many other artists joined the Taos Society of Artists since its foundation in 1915 and they have now become one of the best known art colonies in America. The exhibition features a selection of artwork created over the decades by the society.
