»Henry & Dorothy Riekes Museum

Henry & Dorothy Riekes Museum is the first permanent Jewish museum in the state of Nebraska. The museum, which is maintained by the Nebraska Jewish Historical Society, is a representation of the Kapulier (or B'nai Jacob - Adas Yeshuron) synagogue. Of note is the exhibit regarding Sharre Zion, or the Riekes Shul, which was a congregation that met in the Riekes home.

»Boys Town

This National Historic Landmark tells a story dating back to 1917. What started as a small home for troubled and abandoned boys has grown into a campus complete with a Hall of History, All-American Rose and Biblical Gardens, the Leon Myers Stamp Center and more. Visitors can even enjoy a bit of Hollywood, as Spencer Tracy's Oscar for his portrayal of Father Flanagan in the movie "Boys Town" is on display. Boys Town is open year-round. Free guided tours are available but donations are welcome.

»Hillmer Art Gallery

Located at the College of Saint Mary, the Hillmer Art Gallery is at Walsh Hall on the ground floor. The gallery is open to all and there is no admission charge. Hillmer holds a number of exhibitions such as the CSM Student Art Exhibition, the UNO Print Collection Exhibition, Bryce Speed Art Exhibition, Jess Benjamin Art Exhibition and more, which are absolutely indulgent evenings of art and music. »Mallory Kountze Planetarium

The night sky comes to life at this impressive planetarium. Join the audience in the theater for an educational trip through the heavens; visit the rooftop observatory for a view of the planets; or kick back and enjoy a laser show set to rock music. The planetarium also hosts traditional, live star talks. A store features a multitude of science-oriented materials. Tickets are sold in the lobby 30 minutes before show time.

»Historic Florence Bank and Depot Museum

Historic Florence Bank and Depot Museum showcases the oldest bank in the state of Nebraska, with construction on it having started in 1855. In fact, when the bank first opened, Nebraska would not become a state for another ten years. This meant that the bank distributed its own, unique currency. The huge bank vault at the center of the building has remained unmoved over the years, and remains a favorite attraction for children touring the museum.

Founded in 1993, this museum is the first in Nebraska dedicated exclusively to Latinos. The art, culture and history featured here represent many countries. »Joslyn Art Museum

Few visitors expect to find such an impressive art collection in the middle of the prairie. Masterpieces abound here. The permanent exhibit includes works by El Greco, Degas, Monet and Renoir. 19th- and 20th-century art receive a special focus. The museum building itself is a striking, architectural find. Thirty-eight different types of marble were used in construction. The exterior glows a light pink, setting the building apart from the rest of downtown Omaha.

The building also serves as studio space and housing for artists chosen from applicants all over the world. The Bemis School of Art offers classes for budding artists of all ages. This gallery is also available for rent and is a great place to host a party or reception.
