With a mandate to bring art to the people, this council puts together a series of outdoor events throughout the summer for children and adults. Most events take place at the E Dent Lackey Plaza, across from the Niagara Falls Convention Center and within walking distance of the Falls. Among the events are Kidfest! weekend at the beginning of June, combining entertainment and visual arts at Hyde Park; Friday at the Falls, a concert series in July and August from 7p-9p; and the Saturday Ethnic Festivals. Formerly Niagara Falls High School, is home to over 60 visual and performing artist's studios. Artists include craftsmen, painters, musicians, dancers, and photographers. The center also has two art galleries and two theaters. This art center is one of the largest gatherings of artists under one roof outside of New York City. The 1924 Classic Revival-style building was slated for demolition in 2000 when the school relocated. Fortunately, the group Save our Sites in Niagara Falls saved the building, which is now listed on the state and national historic registers.
Officially founded in 1998, this theatre company started producing historical plays about Lewiston and the Underground Railroad back in 1994. They later added historical drama to their repertoire. Since 2001, they have been based in the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, which is located in the former Niagara Falls High School building. This 200,000-square-foot facility has over 75 visual and performing artists studios, as well as two theaters, two art galleries and a children's center. Loose yourself in the magical wonderland in the Greg Frewin Theatre. For this is the place where amazing illusions are created by Greg Frewin. And if you do not know already, Greg Ferwin is the winner of all the world magic championships. With a Las Vegas style show and seating arrangement of about 600 for all budgets, this is a show that should not be skipped at any cost. All in all, visiting this place is a great way to relax and forget your worries and tensions for the common life.
Home to the Niagara Falls Canucks, the Niagara Falls Memorial Arena is located in the quiet, serene neighborhood of Downtown, Ontario. The arena building dates back to 1950 and the middle-aged style architecture of the building makes it even more captivating. The arena is known for having played host to various ice skating hockey teams like the Niagara Falls Flyers and the Niagara Falls Thunder in the past. The large seating bowl of the arena offers a comfortable seating space for over 3000 people and is very well maintained by the authorities. It remains one of the best arenas for hosting ice skating events in Ontario.
The Ballroom located at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort, is a 1500 seater theater. This ballroom-turned-theater has an intimate seating arrangement, where the last rows are just within 100 meters (328 feet) of the stage. The theater opened in 2004, has seen many a famous artists performing here including, Jay Leno, Bonnie Tyler, Olivia Newton John, Donna Summer and Sugarland. Presented daily, Niagara: Miracles, Myths and Magic is a thrilling ride into the roaring waters without leaving your seat. The film by Academy-award winner Keith Merrill takes you to the very beginnings some 12,000 years ago when the Falls were first formed. The story moves on to the daredevils who have defied its majesty. Accompanying the viewing is the Daredevil Adventure, featuring props from the stunts.
