The Pennsylvania State Capitol
Mo to Fr from 08:30 AM to 04:00 PM,Sa to Su from 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM
Resembling a palace, the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building is definitely not like the other run of the mill government buildings. Considered by President Theodore Roosevelt to be "the handsomest building I ever saw," and designed by Philadelphia-based architect, Joseph Huston, the building cost approximately $13 million to complete. In its unique style and design, the Pennsylvania State Capitol incorporates American Renaissance architecture, priceless sculptures, stained glass, and other works of art, an exterior of Vermont granite, and a glazed terra cotta roof. The building's focal point is the 52-million-pound, 272-foot-high dome, which stands out beautifully against the Harrisburg skyline. Tours are available daily, and can be arranged online or over the phone.
