Fathom Dive offers reasonably priced gear for sale in a well-stocked shop, staff have a reputation for expert advice and a well regarded safety record. Fathom Dive rent, sell and service gear, as well as organizing free shore dives on Saturdays, boat dives on weekends, night and mid-week diving. They also run all manner of scuba courses from beginners to advanced and specialty courses like Rescue Diver.
This is a beautifully kept, tree-lined course, of a challengingly high standard, with moderately fast greens. Manly Golf Club is a traditional golf course with a strict dress code. You will need to know a member to have a game, or inquire about a game on a Thursday, which is corporate golf day. The imposing Clubhouse is smoke-free, with a restaurant, bar, practice area, Pro-Shop and lessons.
Formed in 1993 by experienced recreational divers this dive center is located at Spit Marina, Mosman. There is a dive shop, two dive boats and an open water training area by the Spit Bridge, with ample parking, relaxing grass area and a little beach, perfect for practicing water skills. Southern Cross Divers specializes in advanced diving training, and also offer recreational courses to all levels.
For training in windsurfing, sailing and kayaking, you cannot go beyond Balmoral Sailing School. The head instructor has years experience as a windsurfer and is very familiar with local conditions. Basic windsurfing classes are held on Saturday and Sunday, and throughout the week. Instructor courses are available as well, while the school also offers very popular Blown Away Sailboard Holidays. Bookings is essential. Equipment can be hired on an hourly basis.
Established since 1978,Frog Dive operates two, purpose-built centers located on the lower North Shore (Willoughby) and in the Western Suburbs (Guilford) respectively. Both training pools are heated while the adjoining retail outlets also incorporate a hire department. The Introductory Course takes two hours (theory and instruction); other courses range from Ocean Diving to Instructor Level. Importantly, each client is provided with his/her own mouthpiece. Another popular feature is the Frog Dive Team which offers night dives, weekend dives, holiday dives and various social activities.
Located in a valley adjacent to the historic Walter Burley Griffin Incinerator, this indoor complex provides a very popular aquatic center and multi-purpose sports stadium for residents of the Lower North Shore. The heated twenty-five meter pool is ideal for lap swimmers, while children have their own adjoining "Splash and Fun" area. There is also a spa pool, gym, swim shop and cafe.
With tranquil, sheltered Pittwater on one side and the Tasman Sea on the other, this is a uniquely positioned Dive Center. It offers a shop as well with gear for sale and hire, equipment servicing and air-fills and is one of the few establishments with its own wharf and dive boat. There are change rooms, hot showers, a gear wash bay and complimentary tea, coffee and soup. Atlantis Divers cannot be missed.
The Education Centre in Taronga Zoo has a number of education programs especially meant for kids. There is wildlife photography, trails, hands-on education studying animals in the wild, participatory conservation programs and much more. Call or email the zoo authorities for more information.
This lovely, old oval is situated in St Leonard's Park, a vast expanse of gardens, trees and lawns, with an excellent children's playground, netball courts and a music shell for outdoor performances. Seating around 20,000, the Oval is home ground for the Northern Spirit Soccer Club, Northern Suburbs Rugby Union Football Club and North Sydney Rugby League Juniors. It is also the venue for representative cricket, school rugby and community events. The Function Center has extensive space with bar and a specific dress code.
Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, the endearing tale of two gumnut babies, has been one of Australia's favorite childrens books for years. Author May Gibbs built Nutcote, her harbor-side home in 1926 and it is now a museum. Informative guides show you around, and you can watch two films on Gibbs downstairs. Wander around the gardens so lovingly tended by Gibbs, and enjoy the views.
Situated in the Lane Cove River valley, this is a pretty, well-presented course where you may find yourself playing amongst ducks, rabbits and swans. It is a course for players of all abilities, with a few hazards and a back nine which will test the unfit. The Clubhouse has a full bar, well-stocked shop, lessons and practice area. Dress code: collared shirt, white socks.
This historic art deco pool, overlooking the Harbour at Milsons Point, has nurtured countless school children as well as international swimming stars in the realm of swimming. Facilities at Olympic Pool North Sydney include a heated fifty-meter outdoor pool, a wading pool, indoor twenty-five meter pool, spa pool, sauna, gym, shop and cafe.
