Names after Louis Fonteneau, former President of the FC Nantes football club, Stade de la Beaujoire- Louis Fonteneau is also the home turf of the football club. The stadium underwent a makeover for the 1998 Football World Cup. Besides football many rugby matches along with musical concerts have also taken place here. Names such as Dire Straits, U2 etc have performed here on previous occasions.
The Stade de la Beaujoire - Louis Fonteneau or La Beaujoire, as popularly known is a well known stadium in Nantes. Home ground to the FC Nantes Football Club, this stadium sometime hosts rugby matches too. The French Football Team have played five times. once during the Euro 2007 qualifying match.
Le Pôle étudiant is the vibrant Student Center at the University of Nantes. It buzzes with activity round the year as diverse cultural programs and academic events are held here. The center opened in 2005 and has a capacity of about 600 people; it hosts theater shows, music concerts, film screenings, debates, discussions, exhibitions and so on. The Maison de la Culture de Loire-Atlantique, or city arts centre, offers a comprehensive programme that features classic and modern plays, dance performances and concerts by well-known musicians. The auditorium has seating for 880, with 50 seats set aside for last-minute theatre-goers who can buy their tickets 30 minutes before curtain-up. The Avant-scène bar-restaurant opens two hours before the start of each performance (booking is essential for dinner) and there's also a bookshop that stocks plays, novels, biographies, CDs and art magazines. Travel anywhere on the city's transport network is free when you show your ticket.
The open space near Boulevard des Pas Enchantés in Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire is regularly used to host events in Magic Mirror tents. These specific tents are very ornamental and are set up by professionals to give a royal feel to the venue. The space is frequently host to Jazz concerts as well as concerts by Blues artists. This cutting-edge cultural centre has been in the former LU factory (famous little cakes) since 2000. Comprising a theatre/exhibition area, bar (with DJ every night), restaurant and art library, this space follows current artistic trends and puts on productions of dance, drama and music for audiences of up to 4000. The "Grenier du Siècle" section offers a snapshot of the 20th century: a transparent wall filled with tins containing miscellaneous objects brought by the public in 1999. These objects will be passed on to their descendants at 5pm in 2100!
