Golf Digest named this course the fourth "Best New Public Course" in 1994. Located along the Carson River, this course hosted the Nevada State Amateur 1993-1996 and was used as a qualifier for the U.S. Amateur in later years. In 1998, the club was used as a qualifier for the U.S. Open. The 7,263 yard, par-72 course was designed by John Harbottle and Peter Jacobsen and has long undulating fairways. The club also has a putting green, chipping and sand hazards.
If you're looking for some good quality snow while in Heavenly, then the Milky Way Bowl is your best bet. This black diamond provides some true Alpine bowl style skiing for those keen to practice before attempting a double black diamond. The Milky Way Run is a part of the bowl, and interestingly, the upper half of the run lies in Nevada, while the lower half falls in California.
Ridge Run is quite a popular ski run that is a blue level slope for debutante intermediates and provides one with picturesque views of the lake from the top of the mountain, ending halfway down. One will always find it filled with fellow skiers; just make sure you don't end up colliding into one of them. Take the Express Line ski lift to the top of the mountain to reach this run.
Located just 35-miles from Reno and five miles south of downtown Carson City, this is Carson Valley's newest golf course. Using five different tees, players can choose on what level they want to challenge their skills. The 18-hole, par-72 course covers 22 acres and four miles of shoreline. When the day is done, relax in the clubhouse or sit outside on the 3,000 square foot patio and watch the other players double bogey.
Gunbarrel, one of the most popular mogul runs of the state can be accessed by taking the Gunbarrel Express and then skiing down The Face. This run is bounded with icy moguls, making for a rather bumpy ride down and has often been the venue of mogul skiing competitions. This black diamond trail runs parallel to the Gunbarrel Express through most of its length, making sure you always have spectators along this run.
Come to ski at Heavenly Resort? This shop is the closest place to find ski and snowboard rentals, overnight repair service and winter clothing. If you have forgotten to bring all your gear, you can rent whatever you need here. Ski and boot rental packages, snowboard and boot rental, children's ski and boot packages are all available. Ski jackets, pants, gloves and helmets can be rented and also radios and snowshoes can be hired.
For an exhilarating experience, try the gondola ride. The ride lasts for about 12 minutes, taking you over two miles (three kilometers) up the mountain. As you travel look out the windows for an amazing view of the ground far below. Make sure you get out at mid-station deck at an elevation of 9123 feet (2781 meters) where you will enjoy spectacular views of the Tahoe basin. At the very top you can enjoy a delicious meal at the restaurant while looking out at the breathtaking view. Hiking trails are available if you are feeling adventuresome and energetic. The gondola can hold up to eight people, so this is the perfect ride for the whole family.
This marvelous ski area boasts the longest mountain descent, a vertical drop of 3,500 feet (1066.8 meters), and 4,800 ski-able acres (1942 hectares). Not only is this a world-class resort for winter sports, but the summer months are filled with hiking, horseback rides and all-terrain vehicles. This facility is one of the most popular and beautiful golf courses in northern Nevada. It is the home of the American Celebrity Golf Championship held annually in July. Tee times are extremely hard to come by, but worth the trouble to play this marvelous and challenging course. The par-72 golf venue is rated in the "Top 100" in the country By Golf Digest and the most difficult in Nevada.
This 72-par championship course lies on Genoa Lakes, just a few minutes south of Carson City. The holes are some of the most diverse in the area with some steep slopes. You may even run into some of the natural wildlife while you're playing. The combination of water, desert landscape and mountains makes this an interesting place to play your next round. Peak season rates run $25-100 including cart. Numerous amenities include banquet and meeting facilities, instructions, clubhouse, tournaments and a restaurant.
