Located in Bridgeton, this namesake historic district is one of the largest in the state of New Jersey. It has over 2000 historic structures. It contains very unique and important examples of historic architecture, built over 250 years, said to have begun in the year 1686. Most noted establishment are Potter’s Tavern and Ebenezer Miller’s House. In its heydays, the city had bustling operas, theatres, stores, and downtown. The community strives to preserve the history and the remains of landmarks left here.
Since its establishment in 1737, the Deerfield Presbyterian Church has been serving the community and spreading the message of Lord Jesus. The historical church was incorporated in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
The well-known site of Hollybush stands as a monumental mansion in the Glassboro region of the Gloucester County. Its construction dates back to the year 1849, and it is also referred to as the Whitney Mansion. The eloquently structured mansion site is registered in the National Register of Historic Places.
The history of St. Thomas Episcopal Church is interconnected with the founding of Glassborough, the municipality it is located in. The congregation of St. Thomas was formed in 1791 and worship was conducted in a log cabin. Glassborough was incorporated in 1841, following which this church was established in 1846. Designed in the Gothic Revival style by John Notman, St. Thomas Episcopal Church features a beautiful stone facade. The parish hall was constructed in 1954 for communal activities of the parish.
Founded in 1875, Calvary Baptist Church has remained a church which is a class apart from others. In its long history, it has changed locations and names several times, but their morals have remained intact. People praise it for its teachings and practices, which lets Calvary carve a niche in the community. The church encourages the spread of education, not just among the members but also across the community. The Calvary Baptist Church has been honored by numerous laurels from various organizations and associations, which include the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Kentucky Baptist Fellowship, and a special mention by the Elkhorn Baptist Association.
The Leaming’s Run Gardens are flower gardens spread across 30 acres (12 hectares) of land. They are centrally-situated on Route 9 North in Swainton and were opened to the masses from 1977. Historically significant, the Leaming’s Run boasts of being one of the largest annual flower gardens in the whole of the United States. The Haunted Walk that is organized often is a great deal of fun for all ages. It is a great picnic spot for families and groups, and ample dining facilities are available. This enchanting garden can be visited from May to October.
